
The architectural vestiges of Vauvillers tell the
history of the borough has its various times.
The XVI°century with the markets, the XVII°with the house of the cardinal
Sommier, the XVIII°with the castle and the
church, the XIX°with the large houses middle-class
woman of the center and the beginning of
the XX°with the
station of tram.
Other less remarkable elements (laundrettes, fountains,
martyrdoms) testify to the daily labour
and the religious practice of the people.
The forest is one of its sources of income most significant of the
commune.
Wanted by Gaspard of Clermont-Thunder, built of
1715 to 1723 the castle is surmounted by a roof of glazed tiles
several colors, as with the Old people's homes of Beaune, which in
fact its character.
In the center of the frontage, light advanced capped
of a triangular pediment, on the first floor, is furnished with a
wrought iron balcony with the initial C.M. (Crussy and Massol). The
castle will undergo a fire in 1932 which will mainly destroy it at
the beginning of the century whereas it was used as
gendarmerie.
Currently, It is occupied by the town hall, classes
of the primary school and residences of function of the
teachers.
Opposite a building the same type was built, less
worked out, they were the residences of the servants and the stables
of the castle.
Today, it is occupied by the village hall, the room
of handing-over and table tennis.
On the photograph of the Twenties, the war
memorial was in the center of the court, it was currently moved and
is under the trees.
Gauthier II de Bauffremont (1396-1429) the fact of
building near the church to sit the prosperity of the borough. They
will be destroyed, then rebuilt into 1595. They are the only markets
out of wooden of this time preserved in
Franche-Comté.
After closebeing closed by wood panels during tens of
years, they were used as garage. They were rehabilitated and are now
a pride of the commune.
The house of the cardinal Sommier
The house of the cardinal Sommier, archbishop of
Césarée (1661-1737) is of Renaissance style, with a
hexagonal turret of angle, assembled in corbelling. It is remarkable
by the heads and waste-gas mains which decorate the input and the
frontage.
